Great piece. Except maybe the point can be made without implying that a valuable piece of mathematics is useless knowledge; the point of a basic education is to expose the learner to as many avenues and, thus, possible avocations as possible. And, while knowing how to figure out one length of a triangle based on knowledge of the other two may not be of much use in philosophy, it is intergral to the physical sciences. Plus, anything that teaches reason and logic is a value to society over all.
